LETS GET IT ON!!!

Today is almost equal to a national holiday in my household and across Canada...

Its opening day for the 2010-11 National Hockey League season...

The boys are back for another season of board bashing, stick slashing, puck smashing fun...

THANK GOD!!  There is now something to watch on TV (or the internet) just about every night of the week...

My Faithful Companion

Where I go, my best buddy follows...always close by and anxious to spend a little time with me...Princey aka Moose aka Shadow...in this case hanging out under the sorting table waiting for my next move...

My Tiny Piece of Man-dom...

I have spent countless hours of my day sitting at my "sorting" table going through cards, preparing cards for posting on eBay or to send out to buyers, or just vegging watching something on my wopping 13 inch color TV...

Its not a lot, but its my little home away from home which is located in my home...

Am I looney???

So I informed the missus a few minutes ago that I started my own blog...and she looked at me like I have four heads and singing an opera in latin..."a blog?" she says "on what?"  Its all about my addiction to hockey cards...I get the look a second time..."um ok" she says..."why would you ever do it on that?"  "Why would anyone ever do a blog on that topic?"  So I tell her that I follow about 4 other blogs on hockey cards...there is that look again...SIGH...

Some Special Cards from my collection

Most of these cards I have acquired through my many transactions on eBay over the past few years, while a few I have pulled from packs I have purchased.

I pulled the above bad-boy from a pack of 1997-98 Score way back in the day...little did I realize back then that this was a tough card to pull and is one of the most valuable in my collection.

Picked up two of the above cards from a guy on eBay (along with about 10 more Alex Tanguay cards) for a mere $1.99 plus shipping...why is it special?   It is limited to only 50 produced and carried a decent mint book value of $40.00...frankly, I did not realize when I won the lot that it was these cards, the lot also included a couple of nice jersey cards which was my real reason for the pick-up...I kept one and flipped the other on eBay for a mean profit...it sold for close to $25.00!!!
One of my best pulls from a single pack of cards.  I don't buy a lot of BAP cards, but happened to be at my local card shop (LCS) when he first put the cards out for sale...this is a rare as you can get in the card world, a 1 of 1...
Pulled this straight from the pack back in the late 80's...still one of my favorites today...

Another one of those steals from eBay...picked up 10-12 Florida Panther cards from a guy and this was included...it is numbered 14 of 16...nice!

I love this card, what a great piece of memorabilla...

Another recent pull from a pack of 2009-10 SP Authentic from the LCS...

Hello, I am an addict...pleased to meet you...

An addict's confession...

My name is Chris, I live in Connecticut, I am a devoted Washington Capitals fan since childhood and I have an addiction...

Some may find my addiction to be childish, others think it a foolish waste of money, still others share the same affilication...

What is it you ask??  Drugs, money, power, booze, women, sex, cancer sticks, gambling (you would not be too far off with this one)??

Its simple really...sports cards...ok well only one type of sports card specifically...hockey cards...

Now this is not limited just to collecting cards, I just cannot get enough of this game they call hockey.  It all started when I was a wee lad growing up in the Washington D.C. metro area watching my beloved Washington Capitals ply their trade at the old Capital Center (later renamed to USAir Arena).  While the arena is gone and replaced with a mall, the memories of the past still haunt the location to this day...I could go on, but why bore you with all of the details right now...

This is really about my love, strike that, PASSION for those little pieces of 3.5”x 2.5 cardboard which dominate my life...

Why do I love them?  So many reasons, so little time...something about those little buggers just make me crazy...I just cannot get anough of them...

Whether its ripping a box of cards, or winning them on eBay (which I could spend forever on as well), the thrill of looking for that elusive pull (card) or completing a set is such a rush...

More later...the kiddies are calling...
